Casa Burmester has been selling to Europe, including the British Isles, since 1750.  At this time the port was transported in oak barrels, where it remained for approximately two years before being bottled.  Since the beginning of the 20th Century, all Vintages are bottled in the cellars at Villa Nova de Gala during the second Spring after the harvest/  It is produced according to the traditional method of foot treading in classic stone 'lagares'.

A Vintage is only declared in years of outstanding and exceptional quality.

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is situated in the heart of the Port Wine growing district of the upper Douro Valley.  The Estate was purchased by the Burmester family at the end of 1991.  Its history, however, goes back to the middle of the XVIII Century.

In the modern equiped press-house the grapes are foot trodden and fermented in the traditional big granite tanks known as 'Lagares'.

1997 was a particularly outstanding year; the very good weather during the flowering and the maturation of the vines,  followed by a not excessively hot harvest, presented ideal conditions.

A Vintage is only declared in years of outstanding and exceptional quality.

Vin de Liqueur

Bottle Size 50cl  Vol 15.5%

Grapes:  Muscat Petit Grain, Sercial

Sercial - A mysterious grape from the island of Madeira that develops intriguing aromas of acidity, bitterness and pepper.

Muscat Petit Grain - the Languedoc star.

This wine is created from a double-frmentation.  Firstly Sercial, harvested under-ripe, then the over-ripe Muscat is  added for a second fermentation.  Muscat is harvested much later, in October, when the sun has baked the grapes to near caramel before they are crushed.

Fleshy, rich, amber-coloured wine which is incredibly complex. The Muscat's sweetness merges with the Sercial's acidity.  Candied characteristics of over-ripe grapes on the finish.

Matured for eight to ten years in five to six year old oak casks.

Drink from a Port glass, slightly chilled.
